Tong Zhou was born and educated in Shanghai, obtaining a B.Eng (1st Class Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Tongji University, Shanghai. She came to UK in 1992 to study for an MA in Economics and Finance. After graduation, Tong started a career in an American firm ADP in London as a business analyst. She then worked in various investment banks in London on back office settlement and travelled to Tokyo to work with CSFB on a joint project. After many years working in the City of London, Tong moved on to join her parent’s media business – Shanghai Yecheng Media Group.


Tong is now based in Manchester with frequent visits to her Shanghai office. In recent years, Tong has been appointed as an envoy for Manchester China Forum. She has been working on building up links with education institutions in China through her business network, particularly Shanghai Municipal Government Education Commission.

Our UK Team

MEI was established in 2014 by directors, Kui Man Gerry Yeung OBE DL and Tong Zhou. Their cross cultural understanding provides MEI with a unique strength of experience.

The MEI team works hard, together with our allied operation in Shanghai, Yechen Education – our China arm – to further educational exchange between China and UK. Our insightfulness and understanding of the needs of individuals, specific groups and educational institutions, as well as the resources available in both countries, gives us a real ability to deliver.

. Working with University of Manchester Worldwide on their Masters Course in Education Leadership.  

. Introduction of University of Bolton to Shanghai Education Commission.·  

. Creating links between Shanghai Municipal Education Examination Authority and Trinity College, Dublin regarding speakers

    at  the Assessment: Where Learning Meets Testing' Conference 2019 in Shanghai.


MEI is also looking at different elements of the British education system that can be used in China, for example the Modern Apprenticeship Scheme, the accreditation process for professional training and the possible introduction of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Kui Man Gerry Yeung  OBE DL was born in Guangzhou, China, grew up in Hong Kong and has been living in Manchester for over 40 years. He is a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist, with businesses based in Manchester. His work was recognised  by Her Majesty the Queen, when he honoured to be awarded an OBE for services to business in Manchester in 2003.     

       

He has a wide and varied range of expertise, being actively involved over many years in the commercial, educational, charitable and cultural life of the city of Manchester and has taken on many different roles. He is also an envoy of Manchester China Forum and a respected member of the Chinese community, often acting as their spokesman.


He is passionate about education and his experience has covered both secondary and higher education, being a dedicated school governor for 14 years, working to maintain and develop the vision and ethos of the school, balance the resources and support the staff. He also chaired the Bursary Appeal, which successfully reached its target figure of £2M. He was also a lay governor of University of Manchester for a period of seven years, as well as working on the Audit and Remuneration Committees and currently being a member of the General Assembly. He received the Medal of Honour, the University of Manchester’s highest accolade, in 2016.


Gerry can be seen above in his uniform as High Sheriff of Great Manchester when he was proud and privileged to represent HM the Queen in the county (2017-2018) .

DAVID PERCIVAL MBE is Managing Director of Deloitte's China International Business Development Group, which he devised and founded.


He formerly led UKTI’s Investment teams across China and was a senior British Consul in Shanghai and Commercial Director for UKTI at Shanghai World Expo. In his time in Shanghai, David has supported over 200 Chinese companies investing in the UK and advised UK companies in China from start-ups to FTSE100.

David is also Chairman of the Manchester China Forum, which was established by George Osborne in 2013. He supports the Forum in its long-term commitment to UK-China commercial collaboration by focusing on increasing Greater Manchester’s commercial connectivity with the country. His brief includes building effective relationships with senior figures and decision makers throughout China.He works between China and UK and has a deep understanding and knowledge of Chinese and British culture.


David was awarded the MBE for services to UK business interests with China.


He has been advising MEI since 2018.
